Arthritis is a common condition that involves inflammation of the joints, leading to pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. It can affect various joints in the body, such as the knees, hips, hands, and spine. While Western medicine often focuses on symptom management, Ayurveda—an ancient holistic system of healing—treats arthritis by addressing the root causes of inflammation, strengthening the immune system, and balancing the body's energies (doshas).
In Ayurveda, arthritis is typically linked to an imbalance in the Vata dosha (which governs movement and the nervous system) and/or Kapha dosha (which governs lubrication and stability). An accumulation of toxins (ama), poor digestion (agni), and emotional factors can also contribute to the development of arthritis. Ayurvedic treatments aim to reduce inflammation, detoxify the body, improve joint health, and restore overall balance.
